Union Bluing Bottle

Sorry about the scanned pic, after the 'marble fiasco' I just didn't have the heart to set my camera up again. lol Are these as common as the crystal bluing bottles I see all over the place, or are these older. I gather the 'Union' is reference to the war between the states? Thanks

Hi Norm, the reference to "Union" may be referring to the Civil War, but these bottles are definitely much after the Civil War (1861-1865). They are about 1890-1900, for the most part. I have seen a few that may have been from the 1880's. Still, they are interesting, nice bottles.

Thanks - That may explain the smooth base. I didn't think it was anything special, I dug it and held on to it just because I like the 'star'.

I don't know I've dug a few and I thought they were pretty old. I don't know how to combine pictures but here are three I've dug and one of them has what I think is a pontil let me know what you think. I don't have any info on them though. I too like them as a good looking bottle.

Here is the bottom of the one I think is a pontil
