OK, a pint crown of this for $5 would go perfect next to this one. Matching set. Anybody have one? LEON.

Do not ever rely on books for info on Michigan bottles. Their is not a single good resource for good info on Michigan bottles especially Saginaw and bay city. If you want info about those, see the specialists such as bill or myself.

And just to be clear.....I'm not implying I'm an expert or know it all, that was meant to be sarcastic. I'm just saying in most circumstances you will get much much better info from a local collector than you will from a book and unless im mistaking, bill and myself are the only 2 saginaw collectors who voice our opinions on this particular forum.

Specialist does not mean expert, it only implies someone centering their attention around a specific field....like a transmission specialist. He's a specialist because that's all he does, not because he's the best in the world.[;)]

Just don't wanna come off as a snobby jerk.

It's cool, no problem. BUT, What I wonder is It seems to me certain known beer bottles will not be listed in the breweries book because the saloon was not actually a brewery. How many Saloon owners had beer bottles made for them? Could just anybody have a bottle with there name put on it, Wouldn't this be expensive unless mass quantities sold? Anybody know? LEON.

80% of bay city and Saginaw bottles had saloon names not brewery or bottling works

Saginaw had somewhere around 150 saloons in 1880 and bay city had close to 200. I would say 30% of those saloons had a bottle.

Consider the fact that bottlers could sell 1 quart of beer for around 5 cents in the 80's, so that makes the bottle itself cost what? A Penny if that?

A good list for you of saloons from Saginaw and bay city that had bottles....I will keep it short.

Pilon and larue
Joseph Turgeon
Samuel litthauer
Jg schindehette
M schindehette
H bremer
Wh Kremer
Chr. Henning
Christ Schreiber
Schreiber and Dietrich
Knipple bros
Ziem bros
W mowbray
J winterhalter
Geo. petre
A eymer
Cornell and stafford

That's a few. Their are many many more saloons with bottles but probably only 15 bottling works in bay city and 20 ish in Saginaw.

I found this info on Winterhalter. This one does say Bottling works. All the other info I seen on him just said Saloon. LEON.

I was talking to a guy at the Detroit bottle show Saturday. He was selling lots of Saginaw bottle So I asked him what he knew about the Winterhalter I found. He said like others it was like the 3rd easiest Saginaw bottle to find. BUT, When I told him it was a Crown top Quart he thought that was very odd & unusual since he said everyone he has ever seen has been a blob top? Is this guy right? LEON.

the blobs are common, but, around here they are more common in crown top. i have never valued a crown top, whether pint or quart, at more than $20.00 but i dont collect them either. plus leon, the dump you and i were digging in bay city is where i find those damn things all the time. they are all over locally.
