Try not to fall into it, haha! Wells sometimes have bottles in them, but often don't. It all depends on when the well stopped being in use. If it was clearly filled in, then it might be worth digging, but I'd be pretty hesitant to step into a well without sinking a probe in first to make sure that it isn't just a layer of dirt that accumulated near the top with empty space underneath.

yes that's correct be extremely carefull do not do it alone and we have had pretty good success over here in oz with wells,cheers rob.

I started digging into it.Only 4 feet so far . It has been filled in with bricks and stones .Really not sure if it is worth the effort.Might just keep looking for the privy. Problem is I don't have a probe or detector.

Probes are useless with bricks and stones and detectors only show metal. Perseverance can pay off but find out how deep it might be. Where would the water table be? 3' or 25' where it's at. You may be at the bottom already.
