What is this??

Hey VaChick. I found out what this is. Its a paste jar. The brush, which I am guessing was attached to the lid, was stored in the center tube when the top was screwed on. I did a search on the patent date, and one of the hits was Digger O'Dell's site. Up popped a picture of your jar, and an explanation.

MedBottle!! WOW!! Mystery solved -- and it makes so much sense! That's why the 'insert' is oval, not round, everything is explained!

Although, I do sorta like Dininit's idea of a grenade also!
