Probably a far cry from what it really is but looks like an oil lamp to me just missing the burner. It would have a neat shape and a base if it were

Candy container....don't find bottoms and tops often. Usually rust away

The one that I found recently had a patent date of 1904 embossed on the bottom and I believe that it was a candy container.

I gots me the one with the 1904 patent on the base, and a smaller one which seems to have it's own stand built in.. I thought they were salt shakers.. derrrr [>:] thanks for this thread, I am enlightened now!!!
