when was this made and for what?

this bottle is little more than one foot long, is old, has a pontil scar, and has great 'onion skin' effect, long and narrow, where is it from and who made it, for what? there is no other signs on it for reference.

Your cologne bottle appears to be clear; I have seen them in light green usually.

Willy Van den Bossche in his book, ANTIQUE GLASS BOTTLES, shows (Plate 168) a box of six of these bottles that are 31.3cm tall. They date to circa 1840. They are from a Paris perfumer with a label that says (in French) EXTRAIT D'EAU DE COLOGNE.

Van den Bossche says that "This bottle type was used for many other applications such as for containing balsam, oil, 'Haarlemmer Olie', medicines, liqueur such as Rosolio, etc."
