The gaffer who made this hat really showed his skill as it is not the traditional whimsy hat you usually see but it is squared and flared almost five sided.
The color is a nice medium shade of amber seen often on Booz bottles, Dr Fish,National and drakes bitters and other famous bottles all made at the Whitney Glass works. This hat was probably made between 1850 and 1865 as I believe it to be fashioned after a woman's Leghorn type hat that was quite fashionable in this time period. There is a rough pontil mark and plenty of base wear. The hat is three and a half inches tall on average. It is about two and three quarter inches round at the base up to the point of flaring out and it is five and a quater inches wide in the brim of the hat.
