we are new to collecting - have this Wm Schieffelin & Co. established 1794, brown bottle with nice label says name & for Technical Use Only on it. size is 7" to top without the cork part and 9-1/2" diameter. Haven't opened it - seems sealed well. It appears to be a thick dark liquid inside? (maybe iodine) have researched some, and found POSSIBLY this could be a product called ATOMIDINE (compound of iodine in a saline solution) made by Schieffelin company used for a multitude of things including Dentistry for tooth sockets! there is some very faint writing on the label, looks like the word STONE or STORE? on left and possibly a signature of who mixed it? and the letter A? on the far right? Does anyone have a clue where I can find info on this as far as what it is worth? This is my husbands collection, but every bottle I research is getting more and more interesting! there sure is alot of history behind these old bottles!
