Is that a free blown porter c. 1830?

Not free-blown; I believe it is a 3-part mold but the vertical line is almost invisible. A lot of gall glass in the base.

That anchor looks like it was cut out of a piece of thick steel plate...makes me wonder if it might have been intended to be decorative. It doesn't look particularly practical.

Agreed. It had more modern looking rope secured to it, so someone may have needed an anchor and decided it would do in a pinch. In any event, it will live on as a decorative memento of a particularly pleasant day of river diving.

Hey K, thanks for that. She was a bit crunmbly in some areas, but overall she’s in pretty good shape for the age of her. Can’t wait to see the Missuss’s face when I mount it on the living room wall!
