Snorkeling a lake

Any advice from the divers?

The part of the lake where the most old homes were built is the best place to snorkel. Also if you find any old piers or remnant of old piers(pillars) snorkel that area because they threw their trash off that. I had some luck finding antique bottles around abandon piers in Delaware, FL and Aruba.

I found a very very old lake, Lake St Marys.
It was built in the early-mid 1800's and it is a huge lake!

It has an average depth of only......6-8 feet!

Hey bikegoon, if the lake is that shallow how's the silt situation? Shallow water around these parts usually has up to 4' of soft silt on the bottom. If your lake is sandy and clean you should score some serious goodies 'cause every lake was a trash receptacle. Go for it.

They have to build lakes where you're from? I don't get it. Maybe its just cause I'm from LAKE County, but I only know of maybe one standing body of water that is man-made.

Yeah it is wierd, Alot of the lakes were built to feed the canal system.

But it seems alot dams were built in the 70's as well.

From the website, they said muddy bottoms, but many areas are sandy, rocky bottom due to currents! woot!
