Near beer... those were dark times for beer lovers. I remember reading the history of one of the bottles I found. The company was run by a mafia group who just brewed normal beer and said it was near beer. They paid off officials, bribed cops, and did all sorts of shady things to thwart prohibition. They ended up going out of buisness and several were sent up the river.
