    Weird Little Bottle

Does anyone know what this might be? Very dark amber that you can see through when held to the light. It measures 5-½ inches tall x 2-¼ inch diameter at the base x 1-inch diameter at the top. Has a screw top with the seam running all the way to the top lip. Bottom is embossed with 19 (?)...

    Question on privy digging

I’m only a couple of hundred miles south of you so it could happen. Right now my job will limit me on available time for another 6 to 12 months so I won’t be doing much digging anytime soon. Right now I’m lucky to get 5 or 6 hours a week on this hunt. When my time frees up some I...

    Question on privy digging

That’s not good news! lol We have walked the property and haven’t found anything on the surface to indicate a dump. Since folks have been living here for most of the time frame I hope they just buried the trash and went on about their business. That’s interesting about the privies...

    Question on privy digging

Thanks for the replies. Both houses burned long ago. The first about 1900-1910 and the second about the 1960-1970 era. There is a new house on front of the property that was built around 1975 so the property has been occupied regularly for some time. Still talking to the old timers and...

1840s yard hit two 1880 pits????

On that McCormick bottle with the bee. One of McCormick brand names. “Bee Brand†used that for a logo. McCormick mainly dealt in spices and extracts but at one time all so had a cool little tri-cornered cobalt blue poison in which they sold Laudanum. Laudanum was an opium/alcohol mix for...

    Question on privy digging

We are currently relic hunting on a 2-acre site in east Texas that dates to about the 1850’s that had two old farmhouses on it. Eventually we should find one or more privies and some dumpsites somewhere on the property. The dumpsites won’t be a problem but none of us have ever worked a...

    What Was In It?

Yep it’s definitely worth a second look. Only thing is that it’s not a pleasant spot to dig. If you look close, the indention about center top filled with leaves is the hole it came out of last summer. With all the under brush it gets really hot in there. But dig we will.

    What Was In It?

Greetings, I have a McCormick tri-corner cobalt blue poison bottle embossed with the bee brand logo, McCormick, and dated 1902. My question is; does anyone know what was sold in one of these bottles during the time they were in use?
