So, I purchased some Trapper Gloves from PCSOutdoors and got to test them out today.
I went out in the kayak and I could see a paper thin sheet of ice in a few spots. The gloves kept the chill to a minimum. I could feel the cold, but at no time did I feel uncomfortable. I managed two keepers...
Any ideas on how to get the remains of barnacles off bottles? Soak in CLR maybe? I can get the bulky part off, no problems, but the little imprint where they cling on is really tough. I've tried a copper brush, steel wool, and a wood toothpick, but none do the job.
Gotta say, I love the new layout! Went out for a bit in the kayak on Christmas Eve and got a few bottles in the crab net =) (6) LaPlata Coca Colas and (2) Silver Spring Coca Colas Chestnut Farms Dairy with cream catcher! My first intact! Ambassador Scotch and my new Change Jar lol Barbasol...
This time with a little more time and a metal crabbing net!
I was in my kayak and every time the paddle hit the bottom of the very silty river bed, I could feel it was hitting bottles.
But I was concentrating on the things I couldn't quite reach last time (when I found the milk)
I...
I was beginning to think people in southern Maryland only drank unmarked pints. Turns out they only drink that 99.99% of the time lol
I saw several bottles on a part of the shore I couldn't get to, so I went farther down river to a place I could get to! Only bottle I saw (it was hell...
I will preface this post by saying I've lived in LaPlata, Maryland for over 15 years and have actually worked next to the old bottling plant (now a distribution center) for 12 years.
I've never seen a LaPlata MD coke bottle until yesterday. I've found a couple of broken ones, but no full...
aw shucks
I came across this at a civil war site I know of ....
who beat me to it lol
shard is from a Dyottville cylinder .... sort of a yellowish green
is it an iron pontil?
I guess I should have saved the shard
I couldn't tell where the shards were dug though .... I...
I know this is probably from the 60s or 70s, but it's a cool looking bottle and I'd like to know what was in it
The symbol is the I inside an O but no diamond. The plant code is a 3 and the date code reads 5 (I'm guessing 1965). The seam does not go all the way through the threads.
I...
I found these pieces of ?stoneware? that I suppose may have been an old 5 gal. bucket or something?
They were partially embedded in the soil and partly exposed. I'm going to head back at some point with a rake to try to find the rest of it.
Any ideas?
I was out metal detecting and stumbled on a possible new site =)
there was a 3' x 3' (approx.) area where the soil was way softer than the surrounding area. I only dug for a few minutes as I was headed back to the car, but I found these three (below), a bunch of busted up bricks/tiles, and...
My wife's family always has a milk bottle filled with water in their fridge.
I'd like to buy her a nice embossed Frederick Milk for her birthday (2 weeks away), preferrably from Frederick City.
if anyone has any they want to part with, let me know!
post a pic!
(please nothing super...
Is this a good era? I've only ever found 1 dump (from 1910-1925) and a couple randoms in the woods. My cousin and friend are showing me a bottle dump from the 50s to 70s and tell me I will need a semi to take them all out.
I don't know anything about ACLs aside from that they range from the...
I was looking for people wanting bottles by state/country and didn't see anyone for Washington D.C.
Is it not listed or does no one want them lol?
I've recently come across 10+ Washington D.C. sodas from around 1915 - the late 1920s
anyone ever try using a small caliber gun rod and mop brush for cleaning hard to reach places in a bottle?
I've tried the cut copper wire and CLR method but sometimes it just doesn't cut it.
Enclosed is a step by step tutorial on how to make a bottle hunter jealous (all in good humor) (story after the tutorial).
Step 1: Pick up your trusty digging shovel!
Step 2: Put it in your trunk. You will not need it.
Step 3: Locate a ripe Southeastern Bottle Tree (Bottleus...
All were either on top of or partially covered by leaves =)
among them are a Wildroot Bottle, a Pertussin Bottle, a Vicks Vaporub Jar, a Capitol Club Beverages APL, a Mello Yello bottle, a Pepsi Bottle, a couple of Coke Bottles (one says Richmond VA on the bottom), a Mr. Frostie Root Beer...
Hi all!
