Hi all!

I found this today while metal detecting (I ended up not finding a thing with my MD, but did find about 100+/- bottles from the early 1900s)

535150_10150729430848279_630298278_9227466_445800157_n.jpg

it says:

Madiva
CONTENTS 6 FL oz
WASHINGTON DC

THIS BOTTLE NOT TO BE SOLD
REGISTERED

and on the back it says:

PAT. MAR 25 1925

I had some questions and since I couldn't find much information on this bottle, I figured I'd ask here

Question 1: It had what looks like a huge finger print on the base. Is that from an Owens Bottle Machine? There are a bunch of upside down 'V' shaped bubbles on it.

Question 2: It has some lines near the bottom of the base that I thought were cracks until I realized that one, they're raised, and two, the bottle holds every drop of water I put in it. Are these raised lines also part of the manufacturing process?

Question 3: Where do I sell it? Ebay? Would it sell at all? Don't get me wrong, I love old bottles and both the style and history fascinate me, but I simply don't have the room to collect more things. I'd love to go back to where I found this fellow and bring back all of the others, but unless I can do something with them, it's not worth the effort =(

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I can also take more pictured if anyone is interested!

Thank You

welcome
nice bottle, dont see any on ebay now, most bring a few dollars from that time frame, some can go for 10 to 20 for certain ones, and the rare ones can fetch more. pictures would help but understand you dont need more clutter. Craigs list maybe a way to get rid of them is one shot of lets say 50 bottle lots. But you need to take the time te research on what you have wouldnt want you to sell a lot of 50 bottles for $150.00 when one alone COULD be worth that

check ther links at the top of this forum

Hello Andrew,

Welcome to the A-BN, and thanks for showing us your Madiva.

Our member Chosi is most knowledgeable on DC bottles, and can perhaps tell you more.

"This is an 8" clear crown top bottle embossed:
front: Madiva / CONTENTS 6 FL OZ. / WASHINGTON, D.C./ THIS BOTTLE NOT TO BE SOLD / REGISTERED
back: PAT MAR 25, 1925
(I painted it with water colors to make the embossing stand out)" From Chosi.

"Notes:
Madiva does not appear in any Washington DC city directories."
