Chris Rowell, Balt Bottles , On this forum does an excellent job repairing bottles. He should be able to make your bottle look like new. You will have to tumble or clean the bottle before hand as the bottle cannot be tumbled after the repair.
Chris, I do not know about the hinge mold ones but the pontiled cobalt umbrella inks are in the $1500 range. A safe estimate of the hinge mold bottle would be $500 plus.
Do not give up on this spot. Many of the soda bottles made in the 1900-1920 period are quite valuable. Some Pepsi and Coca Cola bottles from the early 1900's are worth a small fortune.
Matt, Makes sense to me. I know that we have dug many bottles that used the same mold as the predecessor and just changed / blocked out some part of the embossing in the mold. I am not that familiar with seals but it makes since that you could do the same thing. With this bottle only two...
Wayne, I am lost without spell check! I dig much better than I type.
Mommy, The ribbed sauce bottles are fairly common and can usually be purchased as for $10 - 15 dollars.
Here is another bottle I dug today with an applied seal . The writing on the top of the seal is cut off and on the bottom it is either " Hind " or " Kind " . Bottle is smooth base, full two part mold with a fire polished lip.
I found an identical bottle with a similar seal in Odell's whiskey book. J.T.& Co/341 Walnut St./ Philada. . Same address different company with the same bottle ? Weird!
Do some research or buy yourself a few books. Most of the post 1930's bottles do not have much if any value. If you just brought home the good stuff it might be easier on the other half.
It is definitely an applied seal and not part of the mold. I have dug other 1870's smooth base applied seal bottles in the past that were exactly like this one. I have also dug many of the Paul Jones Whiskeys ( molded seals ) and I know the difference.
