Don't know anything about this on either. It is a blue glass violin, about 12" tall. I don't know if the metal casing came with it originally. It doesn't look pre 1900 to me, but I have been told it is very old by a grandma (so that must mean it's old [:D]). Anyways, here's some picas.

Sean, at one time I had around fifteen or so of different one of these, wish I had not gotten rid of them. They all have their own characteristics as for shape, color, bubbles, and so on, plus they make a great display. I was told they were extract bottles, and were hung on the kitchen wall. Is that correct, I do not know, but that is the only explanation I have ever heard of pertaining to them.
Julie thanks for pointing out the collection being sold on eBay, it was refreshing to see that many of them all together like that again. It kind of a plus to have the hanger still intact with them as well. Once they were taken down, the hangers usually got separated from the bottles. The bottles ae still nice regardless as to whether the hangers were with them or not, LC

LC and Skampler: ....and it looks like they are pretty desirable, as most have bids.

The older ones are kind of far and in between Julie, or at least I never see many of them, and haven't now for some time. Haven't went to a bottle show in years, don't know if there are many of them floating around there or not. I would say they most likely are pretty popular, they display beautifully, especially when they are complete with their hangers. I know when I decided to get rid of mine, I had no problem at all in selling them. I do not find them extremely valuable, I think twenty dollars was the most I ever got out of one, that was around fifteen years ago, could be worth more now I suppose.

I see tons of violins but those round ones seem pretty uncommon. Not sure what instrument its supposed to be... banjos dont have F holes? Maybe a big round bass?
