Here's an E.P. Shaw Wakefield codstopper bottle. It is heavily scratched, but oddly the scratches appear to be internal. Wondering how that might have happened.

NOW THAT IS DIFFERENT!!!! I can not imagine what would have caused this condition. It is a good example of a botlemystery. Is there any embossed information on the bottom or heal?

On the heel of the bottle it says "J Kilner & Sons / Makers / Wakefield". The base has J K W 1710.

Maybe it was found in a lake or stream. If some sand/gravel got inside, the bottle might have gotten scratched as it got tossed around by the waves/current. Just a guess.

Hi,

These are not scratches but small fractures in the glass caused by being very close to heat in a fire almost to the glass melt stage and when cooling possibly quite quickly the glass cracked .
