heavy dark amber rittig & alber beer or ale bottle
I found a little info on Rittig & Alber Wabash Ind. can't find info on this bottle or any bottle they produced. Bottle is nice, large, squat & heavy w/ unusual lightning style stopper, bold emboss. I will try to attach an image, not computer savvy. If anyone knows about its scarcity or value, that would be great.
OOHHHHH, In that first pic I thought the stopper looked like a piece of string or yarn. didn't know it was metal. My Mistake, disregard my earlier comment. Thats a cool looking Stopper top. Congrats. LEON.
VERY NICE and rare patented stopper...that is a Whitman closure, patented on April 9, 1878 and likely out of use a few years later. That is the first time I have actually seen one intact on a bottle! Super find...and the bottle appears to be very rare as well.
If the brewer was in business from 1866 to 1900, that bottle is definitely at the beginning of their time in business. I'd say that's an early smooth base piece from 1870ish. Don't know if it's a rare one but it sure is a great bottle. That closure looks awesome too. Anyone in this group able to find a patent for that one? It looks quite different from a lot of the run of the mill enclosures. Without knowing any more about the desirability of this one, it's at least a $100 bottle, and I'm guessing more.
its interesting to see whats out there I recall being at an antique store once showing the owner a bottle and him telling me someone could walk in with an entire case of the bottle , guess you never...
Yes these styro label sodas are now very hard to find in nice condition, as they were used for such a short time and we didn't save any, thinking they were just "new" and worthless. When I do see one...
