Very nice finds! Personally, I am very partial to blob tops. I just love the way they look. Hope this privy holds some additional "goodies" for you. Too bad about hitting water, though.
Looks like a fun one. I guess you all will be bailing some water? I kind of hate that for you, but at least you know it's got bottles in it! All we've been getting this year are shards, shards, and a couple of more shards. Haven't dug a good whole bottle the last several times out. I'm starting to look forward to spring for the arrowhead hunting!!! Good luck in the bottom! Chris
Thanks for the replies, guys. The French Polish is definitely the coolest Bix I have seen. Wet pits are common around here. We dug a 12-footer two houses away from this one and it was bone dry, so we don't even try to guess wet or dry anymore. We had one yard with a dry 8-footer and a wet 4 1/2 footer less than 20 feet apart.
We went back to the pit today to find that it had filled with rain water...Not surprising with all the rain we had this week, but it still sucked. After bailing it out, we dug for six hours today and still didn't get done. It was a good day with lots of 1880s-90s goodies coming out. This is a very big and very wet pit that is challenging and time-consuming, but we're having a blast []. Here is the pit as we were closing up for the day.
We dug another new variant of the Lewistown Bottling Works blob beer today. Here is my ever-growing set of now five different. The one from the pit today is the third one in this pic. These are fun to collect with all the variations.
This pit is loaded with plain, clear coffin flasks. I was cursing each one as they came out. We dig so many that we just get sick of seeing them, but I finally found one that I liked. This one is heavily embossed with a cool quilted diamond pattern.
