2011 Finds

Between work, a four year old and a Pregnant wife... I was lucky to get out at all this year. Did go on a few digs with little or nothing to show for them. I guess about the Best thing I dug in 2011 was this wax sealer fruit jar... Star Glass Co. New Albany, Ind

Also traded out for the other half of a sample whiskey that I dug with another digger back in 2010. It's nothing too fancy, but was nice to put on the shelf since I had dug it. The REAL thrill of the year, for me, was getting out and finding a few arrowheads... my TRUE passion!!!

Digging bottles is so much fun but I can't get too excited about something that is 150-200 years old when I'm usually looking for things that were made Thousands of years ago. Heading out in a few for my first arrowhead hunt of 2012!!!

The green disc shaped item in the center is a flat button with an eagle on it.

Hi Lex,

As you love arrowheads so much, maybe you could tell me about this one. I picked it up from a guy this year who's friend had just found it locally.

if you could tell me an approximate value I'd appreciate it.

As you can see there is a small chip off one bottom tip otherwise it is in good condition.

I'm guessing it's an Illinois piece? Looks like an early archaic knife... @8,000 years old. With artifacts, size is everything. Judging from the pictures it appears to be between 3-4 inches long and around 2 inches or so wide?
The little tip ding and the one short ear on the base hurt it a little, but it is still around a 25-50 dollar point. If the tip was perfect and it had matching ears... 150-300 bucks. Arrowhead collectors are very picky and the market is down right now... not a good time to sell.
Not sure what they would call it up that way, but if I found it down here in Kentucky I would call it a MacCorkle or a Bifurcated Base Kirk. Base edges should be ground down smooth... a nice one!

Thanks Lex! Yes it is an Illinois piece. Not sure what they call it up here either. I do know a guy who has been collecting them for 30 years and has a basement FULL of them, maybe I should go over and ask him what it's called.
