I have a three bottle set in a display/carrier with handle. I'm wondering if it's a salesman's sample of sorts because of the handle. Why would a home display set have a handle? But again, I'm not sure. The display itself reads " Scotch," the second label is too far gone to read, and the third bottle is labeled "Bourbon." I'm The display is the only thing with any lettering. The bottles have some beige swirls for decoration but no words or letters. I can't find any makers marks on the display. The metal looks to be copper or brass colored. There is a lot of rust on it. The handle folds down to allow access to the bottles. Each bottle has a top that comes off exposing a pour spout. The pour spout comes off and still has the cork attached. Does anyone out there know anything about this? I have googled, searched ebay, and not came up with anything similar. If someone is willing to help I can email photos. I can't add any to this post, it keeps telling me the file is too large

Welcome.
Tantalus.
I don't know what that is but copper and brass doesn't rust. It looks like an insert for a travel case during the twenties or so, like a picnic set. A bit later than the Titanic I'd guess with the cork wrap stoppers but during the time period of rich people carrying there booze by ship, rail, car... no matter.
I'm no expert for sure though.

ORIGINAL: epackage

It's called a Tantalus....

Once upon a time, people who drank liquor would 'tantalize' their servants by putting their liquor into a locked bottle left in plain sight. This bottle became known as a tantalus. Ask Sherlock Holmes. He always kept a tantalus, and his housekeeper, Mrs. Hudson, never bothered the liquor ...

The tantalus is a dining-room artifact from the late Victorian or early Edwardian period. This particular tantalus is a two-bottle set, in a brass stand with over-lapping top and hasp with opening for small lock. The two bottles have stoppered tops, brass-covered necks, and brass-dribbled design on the rounded bottles. The Brass polishes nicely, but does show signs of wear and is darkened in spots, and worn where the bottles rest.

Most of us today don't have the servant problem unless we're very wealthy, but a tantalus is a scarce item, and very much a prized collector's piece.

Hello Christopher,

I don't know that I would put too much store in the sales spiel of an easy seller. Sada's piece, and the etsy example both appear to be mid 20th Century items, involving plastic parts, and a popular 1950's splatter / drizzle look.
