Hi Arthur...I do not know much about jars, but it seems like Jane8851 (did I get that right?) or perhaps I'm misremembering, It may have been someone else...but someone was collecting jars w/ that symbol, or from that glasshouse? maybe do a search on this site... Joe
Hey Arthur, I don't have my Redbook right now but I'm sure that varient is in there. What kind of Ball is it I'll look it up? You should get your hands on one of those, Red Book #10 just came out. You'd be simply amazed at all the jars that are out there!
This open star is also found on the base of a quart with THE MARION JAR above the regular Mason's embossing. The quart and this pint have both been reported in a deep greenish aqua color that is typical of Marion's glass. While there is certainly no proof that Marion also made the pint, I would guess that it did. Marion often used old molds and added its name above the existing embossing. However, the pint jars were small enough that there might not have been room to add THE MARION JAR above MASON'S. The Marion jar is also found with a triangle on the base, and these symbols were more likely mold identifiers than trademarks of any company.
Arthur,
Did you say that this jar is a BALL jar? There is reference to a BALL IMPROVED,value $3.00-$15.00Would you be willing to post a pic of the whole jar? Thanks,AJ
