Here a couple of new finds I just dug today.
A local blob top from Manchester N.H. and a green pint whiskey that had a metal band around the top with some sort of ceramic stopper inside.
It had a zinc metal band around the top.
Inside the metal band was some sort of hard ceramic discs and the ceramic lined the inside of the metal band that covered the top of the flask.
I've never seen anything like it before.
Are ya gonna post the cleaned up blob top? I dug a manchester blob top, too, and it looks superficially like yours. Want to see if it is the same company! Are they worth more with the cap intact as is yours, or does it matter?
BTW - nice bottles. Really nice color on that flask. I dug today and found only 1920s stuff. I did find my first ink bottle, but it's not very exciting.[]
hey woody that is sure an unusual type of top to find on a flask. that little piece of ceramic , most of the time i see that part made of glass. i associate that part with a shaker type top. that part acted as a little pump or an oriface to dose a drop or two at a time . did the cap have a small hole in it or a cone shaped tip? i usually see shaker tops on personal care product bottles. hair tonics, toilet water.....? was the top crimped on?
The band was completely around the top, Jeff, so I imagine it was crimped on in some manner. Crimping the ceramic top along with it.
The top of the metal band was open to pour out the contents of the bottle.
It also had two of those round ceramic discs in side of the top.
