From what I understand there are several "all states" colored drugstore bottle collectors. Thus when a good one comes up on ebay there's plenty of deep pocket competition. I bought my local coloreds back in the day when they went for around $10, and of course there was no ebay to connect every bottle collector 24/7. You've got email alerts, sniping software and folks with a lot of disposable income -- despite the economic situation most of the rest of us find ourselves in.
