No, not the Haight-Ashbury type ! Someone brought this large stoneware pot to my stall today and asked if I could give him any info. It was brought up from under water by a trawler - I assume somewhere off the South African coast.

It is about 11" tall and 10" in diameter. Pretty crude and very heavy (& I mean heavy!)

The white lines inside are from sea worms or some such.

I am tempted to say it is typically African in design or pattern, but I could be very wrong ! There are no potter's marks or any such to help.

The base is slightly lighter in colour, but also pretty rough:

Can't help with your pot, but I came across thes coins at a yard sale a few years back. It took me a while to figure out what they were.

Wrong on both accounts[:D]
South African Rand
It was a broach the pin is missing.
BTW the coins are sterling, and if my memory is correct they were minted in England

Hi Dennis. Wouldn't be Rands as this is a fairly modern currency, from the 1960s ! ZAR would be Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek ~ the old Boer Republic under President Paul Kruger. In good condition could have been quite valuable to a collector.

As for the pot ~ doesn't look like I'm going to get much info!

Looks fairly crude in the design of that pot, hmmmmmmm. Bean pot??

I have a thing that if I find something in a dump, and dont know what it is, I just assume its a clock part, so im calling it... its a clock part.[;)]
