What this bottle is and how old it might be? it is one of my favorite bottles. I really like the embossing all over it! I dug it in Central Kentucky recently. it is 4" tall and it's a 3 piece mold. the seams stops half way up the neck. on the front of the bottle it says "Gilt Edge Dressing" and on the bottom it's stamped -PAT May 18,1890. it is aqua in color. all opinion's are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!

Edge dressing is used on the sides of your leather shoes to give them a shiny and clean appearance.
It is used on the edge of the sole and heel of the shoes.
I used to have to use it when I was in the service, USMC.
Your bottle looks to be from 1890-1910, or so.

Thanks for the info Woody. I think the site I am digging, is between 1860's - 1915? so do think "GILT" is the companies name? or something?. also, do you have a recommendation for any literature on old bottles? is there a book out there that list every type bottle made in the U.S.? with both big and small companies listed? I am finding mostly local stuff (Lex,KY.) Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it!

Thanks diggerjeff, yeah I wonder what the story behind the design on this bottle was?? they look like Iron crosses?? there are 34 of them embossed on the bottle. and there is a 7 pointed star w/ a circle in the middle. I like them odd ones, I always keep'em. happy bottle tossin!

That is awfully fancy for shoe polish, isn't it?

To start out for a list of bottlemarks, the website:

http://myinsulators.com/glass-factories/bottlemarks.html

can't be beat.
It is so good I printed it out & put it in a 3-ring binder.
