Hi everyone -
I get lost or side tracked on most jars w/out my Redbook, but the antique mall
(where I got this) had a Redbook handy and it wasn't matching up or listed, I thought. So, I then had to have it. [:)]

It looks like a #1837 except BALL (in arc) is centered on the side of the jar. Also in the date ...it has 1858 unlike #1837. Is there a listing for this jar and I'm just missing it? It's only 5" tall w/out the 'wrong' lid that came w/ it. Thanks in advance.

Duh ...I was close...The jars with letters in shield must of thrown me off. [;)] It's probably a #1841-1.

THANKS BOB!

That one threw me off too a couple weeks ago, because the jar looks the shape of the 1837 illustration not 1841 or 1843 and the later two only come in pints, so the shapes should all be the same. Still a great book though.

Hi guys,

That's one of the things that is confusing to collectors...the Redbook illustrations do not always reflect the proper shapes, or sizes. And, some of them are just flat incorrect. Take #237 and #238 for example. The illustrations show 3-L jars, which they are not. The description is correct, but not the illustrations.

Just one reason of many why we are trying to show actual photos of each Redbook listing on our Ball website. (see link below) By doing this, we can eliminate some of the questionable listings and also make corrections to ones that need it.

And we are also dealig with the fact that Ball jars are scattered all over the Redbook, such as the case with this jar. In time though, we will get the site completed and have a total visual catalog of all Ball jars we know of. [:)]
