ya I thought that was interesting.
its weird the bottles are unembossed. I am wondering if they are early stock before the maker had the money to get molds made. No question they are original.

my theory that these may be early ones is based partly on the fact that they are open pontil marked where as many of the embossed ones are iron pontil marked possibly indicating slightly later manf.

What if the one still wrapped up is an embossed version? That would be a great score for 50 bucks. Probably not, but then again you probably wouldn't find unopened pontiled bottles in most old attics one searches through either.

It's a nice bottle I guess but it only has the paper and wrapper to make anything more that a puff, doesn't it?
Once it's opened it can't be verified and while closed the same thing. Maybe if it was at least labeled?
It's a great piece of history but except for chemical anaalysis I can't see a great value in the bottle.
$50, fine. It is nice to offer the option. IMHO
PS: 1870-1880?
