hi everyone, this jar is 5" tall, 3 1/2" across base. 1st one i seen with no threads. bottom embossed with the #8 with a short line. any information greatley appreciated, rhona

hey rohna how r u ! thats a glass top ball jar it would have had a wire bail to hold the lid on heres a pix with bail

hi madman, i found some information on the net by Bob Clay, Dating Balljars.HTML. they started making the ball ideal in 1915. the script on mine dates from 1910 to 1923, the script on yours was used from 1923-1933. my jar dosn't have the little ears? that hold the bail. don't know when they stop making the bail style. hope this helps. any ideal of value? rhona

hey rohna both of our jars are common, worth more with the lid and bail, your jar they just twisted the wire aroud those grooves to hold the bail in place, thanks for doing the research ive learned alot from this forum mike oh yes 5 to 10 on the price find a lid for it
