Beware of this Ebay seller!

Ebay seller "iluvjax" has been listing and selling a lot of nuked bottles, and getting very good money for it. He does not state they are altered, and many have been exposed to gamma rays, which a lot of collectors aren't aware of. It turns a lot of bottles this "burnt" olive/tan or brown color. Right now he's only got 3 or 4 bottles for sale, and none look particularly suspicious. The two umbrellas look ok, unless the gasoline colored pontiled one has been altered in some way, which would be a real shame if true, as it is going for fairly big $. But it was my understanding that the older aqua glass wasn't susceptible to changes with nuking. Jim G

All recently closed sales I take it? Must be he's got to make another run to the nuke, because right now he's got nothing much up for sale. All that stuff sounds like the usually Ebay nuked garbage. The ONLY saving grace on this nuked stuff right now is there is SO MUCH of it on fleabay that I think it's being oversold and will run out of steam. Of course, it'll be years getting rid of the stuff once it's out there, being sold as rare colors... Jim G

Unless he just particularly collects the EXACT SAME SHADE of citron in all of his bottles, these jokers are straight up nuked. What a total shame to jack up the bottle for $.

Its a shame people can do, which i take it is not against any type of law, and sell them...especially for so much. There are either a lot of unknowing buyers out there or people are just willing to buy altered glass. Truly sad.

Theoretically, that umbrella SHOULD be ok. It would have been an aqua, not a clear, and it's pontiled, putting it probably 1850s, before they started using manganese to make clear glass. It shouldn't be susceptible to nuking. Then problem, of course, is if this guy has sold a ton of nuked stuff, can you trust him on anything. IF this is an altered bottle, it raises an entirely new red flag for collectors, namely older, pontil era bottles being color altered. Up to now, it's basically been TOC clear bottles being altered. This would be a serious extension of that to older glass. I do not like where this is going at all. Jim G
