Hey Guys,
I hope all is well with everyone...still trying to catch up on field work (diving and boat work) after Hurricane Sandy around here although we made out pretty well all in all.
For your consideration is a bottle I found while diving this week. I'm interested in proper ID. It looks kind of like a mallet bottle, but it is obviously not that early. It has what I have seen called a "donut" finish as well as a sand pontil. Dimensions are approximately 8" high by 5"across. It has lots of character with a nice bend to it as well as a very uneven bottom (within the recess). Lots of bubbles and the color towards a greenish honey brown. Mold seem runs all the way up the to bottom of the applied finish.
What would this type of bottle be called? What would it have normally held? Where was it made? From what period does it date?
Thanks in advance!
