Welcome to the Blue Pages and thanks for showing us your nice finds.
The Patd 85 applies to the Baltimore Loop Seal that the founder of Bottle Seal Co., William Painter, invented in 1885.
This was his big closure invention prior to the Crown Cap in 1892.
As far as the outside groove on the finish, perhaps the lipping tool had a spur or was somehow fouled when this bottle was made.
