Hello All,

Looking for info on this one. Hopefully the photos come out ok. Looks like pre 1900, as the seam doesn't go through the lip. About 8.5 inches high, very very dark green glass with bubbles, thick and heavy. Looks like a beer or soda bottle, but says "James & Co., Wine Merchants, Boscombe". The bottom is embossed with a little triangle in the middle, and most likely the letters "P & R", possibly "R & R".

The killer is the weird stopper that screws inside the bottle. The bottle is actually threaded inside for this stopper. The stopper is made of something very hard, I can't even indent it with my finger nail. Almost stone like material.

Looking for any info, rarity, value, age, etc. Can't find anything on the internet.

Thanks!............Rick

There were a few American bottles made like that but yours is most likely English. On of our English members will be along and help you out hopefully.

Warren and Craig,

Thanks for the input! I found a UK bottle website and posted it there. They also have a pretty cool site, very similiar to this one. And posting pictures seemed a bit easier. Here it is if anyone's interested:

You need to register to get access to most links.

Anyway, they gave me some good info on the bottle. Said 1880's to 1930's. Likely the 1910-1920 range due to the stopper. Said it is a beer bottle. The stopper is made of ebonite. Gave two possible locations of Boscombe in the UK where it could have came from. It is a Riley patent internal threaded bottle. And the P and R embossed on the bottom is for the maker of Powell & Rickets Bristol.

Just thought I'd share the info. Not a priceless find, but an odd cool looking bottle.

Thanks!

Rick

Wayner, Thank you for the information. The Boscombe links were very interesting!
