Another bottle I found today - nearly 8 inches tall. Rectangular shape.
Front says "C. Gates & Co." and one side says "Invigorating" and the other side ways "Syrup."
Bottom just has a 12 on it.
Anybody know anything about that manufacturer or the "invigorating syrup"??
There was some brownish residue in the bottle and it smelled funny, kind of like molasses.

Hi Claire: It's an interesting bottle and one from Nova Scotia. C. Gates & Co. manufactured all sorts of Nostrums from the 1870s onwards in Middleton, N.S. I'd hang onto this fellow, for sure.

Great info! Thanks! I didn't find them in a Google search so I was kind of lost on where it came from. Nice to know it's local! Also older than I thought.
I'll keep an eye out here for any more of their bottles!

This is a Gates Invigorating Syrup with ratty label. The product was made in Middleton, N.S.

Many of Gates remedies, including this one, were advertised in a 1915 edition Belcher's Farmer's Almanac published in Nova Scotia.
