Great article. Glad they came out as concerned with the ethics of the coloring. Jim G

Caveat emptor and Ebay won't back up the buyers. There have been a ton of bottles and jars coming out of Florida that have been nuked. Not all of them are of the purple or "motor oil brown" variety. Some are being sold as "ice blue", "citron", etc. The National Insulator Association (NIA) had a really good article that was written on irradiation of glass: http://www.nia.org/altered/index.htm As you can see, depending on what additives were used in the glass they can turn different colors. There is still some debate on whether placing the irradiated glass in an over for a period of time will return it to it's "original" color. I bought a nuked jar and put it in the oven at 250-degrees for 2 hours and didn't notice any difference in color.

This is the ink that I think is suspect. http://www.ebay.com/itm/c1900-LITE-AMBER-TOPAZ-CANNON-SHAPED-INK-BOTTLE-PAT-No-48709-/251369471485?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a86c9bdfd The Brits did some odd colored inks, but I've only ever seen this one in clear, maybe aqua. And, again, the color is funny. Jim G Looks like this guy has been busy nuking: http://www.ebay.com/sch/gator-ben/m.html?item=251369471485&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a86c9bdfd&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Not sure how people fall for this when so many different types of bottles listed by this guy are variations of the same purple or weird brown color. "Oh look! It's a gasoline brown colored Codd! And a gasoline brown Atlas jar! And a gasoline brown Coke bottle! What are the odds?!? Here, take all my money!"

Didn't think to look at his other listings. Lots of nuking there indeed. At least the colors are so often too odd to be anything other than nuked. Jim G
