Charleston Sodas

Can anyone provide de any biographical or company history on these 2 Charleston Sodas I just picked up. They were recovered in the late 1960's from Julia St. James Island, SC. "A. P. SMITH CHARLESTON S.C 7 5/8" soda bottle is a rich dark cobalt, BIL, IP. Next, "CHARLES CLARK CHARLESTON S.C." 7 1/2", green, BIM, IP. On the opposite side is "SODA WATER". I'm guessing these are 1850-60, does anyone know how long these companies were in business?? All help is greatly appreciated...

Those are both REALLY nice bottles. Does anyone know how long these two companies were in business?

Was curious if you inherited, were gifted or purchased these bottles. Is the person you got them from the person who "uncovered" them in the 1960s?I have been compiling a map of JI oldest homesites and havent come across any older maps that showed any homesteads were Julia St currently is.Did the person give an address or any other location on Julia St? Or how they were found, construction, demo, planting?? Accidentlly or actually digging ? Thanks

I purchased these from the original digger, in fact he still digs. Correction, I questioned him on Julia as it was on James Island. He swore he dug them in Charleston, but as you know Julia is on James, so uncertain of street. He dug them between 1969-70 on a lot in Charleston that had two privy's. The guy that dug with him passed 15 years ago, so specifics are lost. He is a resident of Florida. I wish I had more info, I'm a stickler for details.
