Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I am not sure exactly what I am doing, but, here goes:

I recently moved to a farm in North Yorkshire, UK and my landlord pointed me to the dump site that sits next to the old farmsite, which is now my house. I was out just sorting through the "stuff" and started finding bottles- lots of bottles. I am now spending quite a bit of time out there! So now I'm trying to date everything I've found.

I will be posting my finds- slowly- I'm on dial-up, down on the farm. My favorite find so far is this cobalt bottle. It's a 3-piece mold and has a hand formed lip. The seam runs the length of the neck, but not into the rim. No markings are on the bottom, but it is concave, like a wine bottle with a small dimple in the center. No other markings are present. My read is 1840-1880, but I have no idea what it was used for. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

johnny
