I dug it myself.
It was like that when it came out of the dirt.
Why cant it just be light amber?
I dont think it had anything to do with sun exposure.
It looks like the used brown glass when they made it.
I have put some glass on the roof to get more purple color.

It's a very odd shade for light amber, it could have laid on the ground in the sun for 60 years before a tree grew there and pulled it down into the earth. I don't think it makes a difference and I like the shade regardless Doggie...Jim

I have never heard of glass turning brown by the sun.
i have seen purple from the sun.

Glass with Manganese turns purple, glass with selenium turns a straw brown like yours...

That last pic with natural sun makes me think it may have been made this way though now...

What time period did they use this selenium in glass?

Selenium was used in bottle manufacture following the exhaustion of manganese stores (1918- maybe 1919?) until about 1930. Selenite (the common source of selenium) is a frequently mined mineral in arid regions.

Perfect for the time this company was in business...
