Yes, that's a good amount of dough! I sold one last year (purple or puce, some called it) for $2000. I took pictures of it to the Insulator convention in San Jose, and they said I did well. I found another chunk of one, but I don't think it's enough to sell. It's about 1/3 of one. If anyone is interested let me know. I'll attach a pic and also a fragment of a Brookfield, with the address 45 Cliff St. N.Y. on the upper part. It's not a beehive shape, as the top is sloped. I have seen others with the same words, but not in the same place on the insulator, and not in the same shape. I'm trying to find out more about it. I've got some time next month to dig, so if anyone is digging in the SF Bay area and wants a partner, let me know!
You've definitely got a knack for finding good stuff!! Those eggs are highly sought-after.
The Brookfield insulator is a CD 133, typically used on telegraph and fire alarm signal lines, and it's not unusual to see them turn up on phone lines, too. The 45 Cliff St address would date it to 1882-1890. Here's a photo of a whole one similar to yours:
Thanks for the info! I use old maps and county records to locate possible spots. I have had a couple of good years as far as digging goes. Before SF I lived in Atlanta and before our move I sold over 500 bottles. I love to find 'em, hate to store 'em!
