Thanks for your assistance! Hopefully some eastern forum members might have some additional information on this bottle.

Here is a page with some general history of the herb Oregon Grape "Majonia repens"
http://www.nativeplantsociety.org/oregongrape.htm

Although it was apparently a fairly well known medicinal plant that is the only bottle I know of that has it embossed in its name.

The bottle is reddish orange amber, the base has the typical conical inset. The glass is very clean with no staining.

I'm not versed in bitters but I beleive there is a bitters bottle " OREGON GRAPE ROOT BITTERS"
I see a patent for it by J D Eastman & Co in Montanna Territory.
Unrelated to your bottle but interesting that there was another Oregon Grape containing product.

You're correct about the OREGON GRAPE ROOT BITTERS bottle. That bottle is featured in Antique Western Bitters by Wichmann and Western Bitters by Wilson, it is a cylinder in clear glass, Wolter Bros. & Co were the sole agents for it in S.F. It's said to date 1885.

Some Plateau Indian tribes used Oregon-grape to treat dyspepsia.

The plant is used medicinally by herbalists.

Oregon-grape root is commonly used medicinally as an effective alternative to the threatened goldenseal. Both plants similarly contain the alkaloid berberine, known as an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial used in the treatment of infection.

Mahonia aquifolium is also used in treatment of inflammatory skin diseases such as Eczema and Psoriasis. Other actions may include alterative, diuretic, laxative and tonic.

Recent studies indicate that M. aquifolium contains a specific multidrug resistance pump inhibitor (MDR Inhibitor) named 5'-methoxyhydnocarpin (5'-MHC) which works to decrease bacterial resistance to antibiotics and antibacterial agents

The patent was issued in 1887 so it seems like the right time frame.

So the Dr. Herr's Cordial Oregon Grape Philadelphia bottle is an unknown example to the eastern collectors?
