Correction... Looking at the lip of the bottle again. I think what I thought was a "D" is just a small imperfection running along the seam. I didn't notice at first but there is a larger letter which appears to be a "G" on one side, and what looks like "59" on the other side.

wombart Thanks again for the information. Even though your bottles are not super-early examples, they appear to be in great condition and an excellent start toward collecting the "multitude" of different Royal Crown Cola variations. I'm still not sure how many different variations there are, but there seems to be quite a few of them. As for the book "Collecting Applied Color Label Soda Bottles," I known the author, Rick Sweeney, and used to sell some of the books that I acquired from him, but I haven't been in contact with him for about three years. Because I have to buy them by the case of twenty copies, which in the past took quite a while to sell, I haven't messed with it since. If I knew I could sell all twenty copies lickity-split, I might consider doing it again. Rick has no interest in selling them piecemeal either, and is the reason he allowed me to sell them. Otherwise, they can sometimes be found on eBay or Amazon in used condition. I was selling them for $55.00 each (new), but the used ones can likely be found for less.

P.S. There are three different editions of the book, 1995-1998, and 2002. There are about 1,400 bottles listed and about 1,200 of them pictured. The values are considered obsolete now, but its still a good reference for ACLs. Here are the pictures of all three covers ...

I took this picture of Rick Sweeney in his home about two years ago. When I asked permission to occasionally post it on the Internet, he said it was okay. Rick has one of the most impressive acl collections I am aware of, many of which are super-rare bottles. He allowed me to hold his "Big Hit" bottle, which is currently worth about $1,000, and one I would dearly love to own someday.

In case you were wondering how Rick keeps his bottles from falling off the shelves, the red arrows point to Plexiglas strips that are about half the height of the bottles which are secured by screws indicated by the little green arrows. He said he had the shelves custom built which occupy four walls in his office and hold about 500 bottles. It's a great design idea and one I would use myself if I had the room, which I don't. I only have room to display about 50 bottles, most of which are Big Chief acls.

wombart, here's a different variation. Duraglas made. I think the date is 43? If that's what the dot after the three means. I don't really know. Here's some pics. [attachment=image(VD).jpg]

Awesome, thanks for sharing goodman. Sodapopbob, I may have to try that shelving idea. I've definitely had some bottles fall off shelving before...
