I don't normally post current e-bay bottles, but since this particular one has no bids yet I decided to go ahead and share it. I also understand the sensibility of the subject matter. But all things considered it is still an extremely rare acl soda bottle, and one that rarely becomes available in great contition. It is a "Cotton Picker" from Leland, Mississippi. This particular example is the all-white varaiation which is usually harder to find than the two-color green-and-white example.

Several years ago I was in the home of a well known advanced collector, and I remember him telling me if I ever came across one of these bottle, especially if it was in great condition, to be sure and purchase it if possible. In his opinion it was one of the hardest to find acls around. But since I have already spent my allowance this month, and there are only seven days left on the listing, I thought I would go ahead and pass this along to others.

It has a reserve on it, with an opening bid of $49.95. According to everything I know about it, it is valued somewhere in the $300.00+ price range. The tough part is in knowing what the reserve amount might be.

Anyway, check it out. It's worth watching even if no one here happens to bid on it.

Side Note ...

Rarity does not always mean there are only a small number of a particular bottle in existence. It can also mean that a bottle is so popular, and in such high demand, that collectors hold on to them and that they "rarely" become available for sale.

Here is a brief article on the bottle, which is also from my acl book. I believe it was written by Rick Sweeney, who was the collector who told me to watch for this one. Note the bottle style on the one in the book. There are obviously several variations.

Since members only get e-mail notifications on threads they post replies to, I thought I would update this one and inform anyone who is interested that the bid count is now at 7 and the high bid is $152.00. However, the reserve has still not been met yet. I'm not bidding, but I suspect the seller is wanting at least $200.00.

Speaking of e-bay and extremely rare, I thought I would add this next listing as a little bonus. It is a Coca Cola bottle that recently sold on e-bay. Maybe it was someone here who bought it. The link will expire in about 90 days, so check it out now while you still can. The bottle in question is the one on the left pictured below, and described as follows ... (The one on the right is for color comparison).

Coca Cola bottle - Extremely rare olive green color - 1915 - LGW 20 - Laurens Glass Works 1920

It received 14 bids and sold for $382.77. (There was no city or state embossed on it).

Plus, I think you will agree when you see the listing that it is a perfect example of the way that all e-bay postings should be. It has both fantastic pictures and a great description. My hat is off to the seller who created it. (I just wish I had been able to purchase the bottle myself).

splante ~

I wondered about the same things. But all I have to go on is what was described about it. I suspect the color was simply a screw up when they mixed the batch of molten glass. If I had $400.00 to blow on it, I would have been willing to gamble on it being original. The other day I sent Bill Porter an e-mail asking him what he thought about it, but I have not heard back from him yet. I'll let you know if/when I do.
