I had this Davis Vegetable Pain Killer in my watch list, and expected it to be a $50 bottle. Of course there were some crazy bidders who helped smash the old record price for a non-pontiled Davis Pain Killer. I showed the listing to a friend of mine and he thought it was fake! I've seen another citron Davis before, but what are the odds this one is coated?

No, I don't think it's fake, and the color is really the color, not coated.. I don't see the hinge mold the seller speaks of, but it doesn't appear to be one of those Italian repros..

its hard to tell, with some of these"painted" bottles the only way to tell is to dip them in something... it would not be unusual to see a davis in this color, and there are not any reproductions known of, but there are a few dipped or painted bottles turning up out there although not any Davis I know of.

I'm not saying the color was altered, I'm saying it has been covered inside and out with a clear coat.. see the drip marks and the pool of goop on the bottom inside? Looks just like one of my failed clear-coating experiments.

Looks real to me, dont see anything about it that looks altered or coated.

Sorry to persist, but I'm quite sure it has a coat of poly on it.. the water-based stuff..

Hmm, good observations! If you don't mind me playing the devil's advocate, is it possible the bottle was recently rinsed out and those drips are water?
