Hey everybody,

We found this bottle a couple of months ago and I have been intrigued by it since. It is clear and in pretty good shape. It says S.HALLENBERGER'S / FEVER & AGUE / ANTIDOTE. We found it in an early 1860s privy. Does anyone have any information about this bottle?

I have the same vial myself. At first I didn't think it's was as old as you stated, but I searched online and it was mentioned in 1857. I saw one with the wraparound label and contents on ebay sell for $25. It was sealed with red wax and had a box too. Another w/o the label sold for $20. Sorry, I don't know where it's from though.

S.HALLENBERGER'S / FEVER & AGUE / ANTIDOTE

I beleive it is SHALLENBERGER'S FEVER & AGUE ANTIDOTE.
It was advertised as early as 1859.
A cool medicine , I havent seen one for a while.
Its similar to the DR J W BULL'S VEGETABLE PILLS BALTIMORE bottles.
Yours was also pills.

I'm not real concerned about the value. I'm sure it isn't much, but it has to be at least mid 1860s. All the stuff we found from the bottom of that privy was from mid to very early 1860s. Now, that is not to say that they weren't made exactly the same well after that without much variation. That is definitely possible. It was just an neat little bottle that I thought might have a story behind it.

Here is an 1864 rev stamp for it...

The medicine was apparently made fro a long time, probably until the 20th century.

Sure thing GuntherHess. They aren't real good though. I took them on the fly, but you are more than welcome to use them how you see fit.

I would love to know what kind of top it had. It looks like it could have had a glass stopper that matched the style of the bottle; We didn't find it if there was one. But, then again, I really wouldn't be surprised if it had just a cork!
