Finds from yesterdays PA privy…

Here are a couple pics of the bottles I got from a privy we dug yesterday. I wish I could have got some pictures of all the bottles and the hole but I forgot my camera so here are my picks. The house was from the 1850s but we couldn’t locate the old hole. We dug two holes in the yard and the older hole was about 8 feet deep. Some of the better finds included a cobalt Underwood’s master ink, a seldom seen Sunbury, PA blob and a Pittston, PA hutch which I got. Overall it was a fun dig and I got some cool stuff like the pipe and big bennington marble.

Cool stuff tom I like the pipe, you say you couldn't find the old pit, the pit we dug this week end was a 7os we couldn't find it for a while, we dug a 1850s pit in that yard in the fall, that was a good pit, after that we looked high and low but no luck, we went back to the same yard this weekend and found the 1870 pit between a shed and a chainlink fence with no room to spare, so that 50s pit of yours will pop up one day, got to keep goin back. Hey Jim. Yeah, it was really, really hot trying to get that one dug. I would like to come down and dig with you guys again soon. Every time I check Chuck’s bottle on eBay it keeps going higher. It’s at over $800 now. I got to see it in person over the weekend and man is it a nice color. Thanks for keeping me in mind about the doll heads.

Thanks Chris. Sadly it was broken in two pieces right where the top meets the base so I had to glue it back together. You really can’t even tell now. Here is a picture after I mixed and matched other lamp parts I dug with it to make it complete.

Tom,

I do the same thing I have tons of glued back things around the house. I think even the broken stuff is worth bringing home and reconstructing. To what I like to call "Displays Well Condition"

I was going over old posts and saw your lamp ,must have missed it last time, its cool! a whole lamp, never found a whole one, lots of pieces just not the same ones, I would fix that up make it work and go on a night dig, lighted by a 19th century oil lamp!! that would be wild, then again I think of some weird chit.[8D] Rick
