found an old farm and an old dump

yesterday i was driving down a little used dirt road in south muskoka , ontario and came across an abandoned property that looked interesting so i stoped to check it out as i knew this road was very old and at one time had farms along it . most of muskoka is now forested but at turn of century 1880's - 1900's there were actually people follish enough to try farming here . the land south of here is great for farming but muskoka is start of canadian shield and soil very rocky so there is alot of failed farms around .
anyways i took a couple pictures but forgot to get one of the barn . the property is about 100 acres so only explored a small part of it . did find one old dump last night but cut my finger on a piece of glass so i had to leave early before i was able to dig much up but dump was very old and all the bottles used corks that i was finding . most i found were broken but did find 2 small bottles ok .

a picture of the farmhouse , i think people were living on the property until maybe 20 years ago or so , i suspect there is other bottles on the property i just haven't had time to find them . haven't checked the area near the barn yet either . i found the old dump on a hill to the right of farmhouse which seemed like an odd place to dump .

the 2 small bottles i found yesterday , a plain likely common clear corked bottle and a unusual light green corked bottle no idea what its for .

Did you search the house and the outbuildings?

It is very common to find farm dumps just over a slope of any kind near the house, or all the way at the end of the pastures. Ravines and banks are always good places for finding these types of dumps. Keep digging there, start at the bottom and work your way in and down. You will find stuff.

looked in the house but didn't go in . its obvivous some teens have been in there and done some damage . very unlikely to find anything of value , house also had a basement but it looked unsafe . house doesn't look as old is the barn . barn looked very old , will take a picture of it next time i'm there .

[] I think your selling the age of the house short, It has been resided with asbestos shingles , probably in the forties. If ya look underneath I feel that you would find old wide board siding of before the 1900s, the barn would be a better indication of age. remember the house will be as old as the barn, that is a really steep roof, backwhen wooden shingles were used steep roofs were very common and helped the shingles shed the water faster. My guess that age on the property is anywherefrom 1870 to 1900, agood time frame for bottles..Andy

finally got back to the farm yesterday , here is a picture of the barn . it looks pretty old , walked around it but no signs of any older dumps .
