So, My father and I went back to the dump for a spot of digging this afternoon, and although not many bottles were found (only 1 hutch today [:(] [:D]) I managed to pull out an unreal Blob beer that is still blowing my mind. It almost feels like it landed from outer space because of how mystifying it is to me.

Anyway, Here you see an attractive Edelweiss beer from Chicago...

Note the nice lines in the neck and the peculiar ring of smoky impurities that completely encircles the blob.

Now... The crazy thing about this blob is that it only holds 2 ounces![&:]

I have no idea what to think about this blob beer, and if anyone has an idea about what the heck it was for and what it held I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. It is 5.25 inches tall, 1.5 inches wide, and filled to the top it only holds 2 ounces. Craziest blob I've ever seen. [8|]

My guess is an advertising piece. Neat Chicago bottle.

Thanks!

Here is a shot of it next to a normal sized blob, which puts it in perspective a bit better:

See why it is still blowing my mind? [:D]

yeah that to doesn't look like a blob to me. Chuck might be right or maybe soda. I have a "Cream Soda" almost that size from Philly.Cool little bottle non the less.

To be more technical, it isn't a true "blob top" as it was sealed with a cork (found the cork in the neck), but of the finishing tools available for that size of bottle the finish they chose approximates the scale dimensions of a full-size blob top very well.

I highly doubt that the bottle came from anywhere but the Peter Schoenhofen Brewing Company in Chicago, IL. Their "Edelweiss" beer was very popular, at least in my area as there was a pre-pro distributor here in Peoria, so the normal beers are dug up relatively frequently locally. If the bottle held anything at all, I figure it was hard alcohol or perhaps a sample of beer, though only 2 ounces of it would be pretty lame. I see no record of such small "pseudo-blobs" from this place, but the style of the logo is unmistakably identical and as it was their trade mark i figure the little mystery bottle came from nowhere else. I figure it must be pretty rare.

The back of the bottle has the mold mark "8-S", which is identical to the types of mold marks on hutch and crown sodas and beers I think were made at Root in the early 1900s.

Here is a pic of a normal crown Edelweiss:

I like the crudity of your bottle. They are fun to find, and fall into the classification of miniature beers, (read sample). I've dug a few different ones over the years. There is actually a miniature, same company, embossed Schoenhofen in a shoulder "seal". Edleweiss for some reason were always a little bigger than the rest. Right now on Ebay there is a miniature amber 4" Seipps for sale. They do make an interesting and fun subset to collect.
