It was a good hunting on Saturday....got the chance to see a great collection and pick up a few jars. Local fellow I traded a jar for a colored insert invited me over to see his collection.....probably one of the best I have seen in many a years looking at jars.

Also was selling off his extra's...so I also had the chance to dig through several boxes of jars...and came away with some great jars....

First is a fantasticly colored Mason's Improved...this jar is a deeper ball blue than most Ball jars I own...two pictures......

Very nice finds! Looking at a great collection is an intense experience for a true collector. Congratulations on both. George

The last one of the Mason's N Patent is an aquired mold...jars that have this type of embossing are the earliest of the Ball Brothers jars produced after moving from Buffalo, New York to Muncie, Indiana....

These molds are cast-offs from other manufacturers, Ball bought these molds, cleaned them up a bit and put their name on them...it was more cost effective cleaning up a mold and using them than producing a complete new one.

Some of the molds were / are more scarce than others....the pints being the first produced..and have several varations of reverse or obverse embossing......the aquired mold jars can run from a couple dollars to a couple thousand dollars....the Mason's N Patent mold were are scarce mold variation....the quarts are not as scarce...

Great hobby......ask questions when ya get a chance...there is some jar collectors in here that are well "seasoned"....and are more than willing to answer questions....
