Any guesses to the age of this veterinarians healing powder wiswall&wilcox glenwood ave glens falls n.y It says possesses protective stypticand healing properties.Wonder what animals it was used on or if it was a cure all?

From the word styptic I'd say it was used to constrict blood vessels to prevent bleeding from cuts, and likely in this case bleeding from "cutting to the quick" of an animal's claws. I think the styptic component is some sort of aluminum compound (it was for the pencils my mom had back in the day) and the medicated part was probably an antibacterial agent.

Here's a different brand used on pets and humans ~ tells what it's used for. Gave me a few giggles and made me think of when the horse and mane shampoo came out and was all the rage for humans along with hoof and manicure lotion/cream for horses and humans also was a big hit [] I had the most beautiful mane back then along with my hoofs. []
