Hi Folks,

I am new to this and so this is my first post. My father died recently and in clearing out his belongings we found what we believe to be 2 old bottles that I would really appreciate any help you might be able to offer on.
The first measures about 295mm tall and 75mm in dia. It has a seal just below the neck that reads "Grand Vin" above what looks like a cross motif and "Chateau Lafite" below.
The second bottle stands about 325mm tall and appears to have a screw thread. At the bottom of the bottle it says "RHUM Charleston". It also has a glass seal with the initials "MBR" in it. There is also a damaged label with the face of an old woman wearing a cross. The label also says "1714-1801".
Can anyone please offer any information about these bottles as I have no idea whether they are rare, valuable or just for the recycling bin.
Thanks,
Fred.

Hello there..

The first bottle is a bit more interesting, although neither is of any significant value, in my opinion. First is a wine bottle, from the French estate, and it may or may not be old. We would need to see it in closer detail, esp. the seal and the lip. CLICK HERE for more on Chateau Lafite.
The screw cap on the 2nd one indicates modernity, 1940's or later, and depending on who's mug that is exactly on the label, is not a collectible one. Rhum Charleston is a brand of burbon whiskey, and their posters can be worth quite a healthy sum...

Hi,
thanks for your help so far. I have tried to get a close up of the Lafite bottle seal and lip.

'Splante' when you said a picture of the base would help, did you mean the Lafite bottle (no markings) or the Rhum bottle?
Thanks,
Fred.

Thanks for the close-ups.. from the looks of things, the bottle is from the later 1800's.. maybe 1870 -1880.. and since it has a seal, it might be worth a little something. It's a European bottle, and from a large, long standing operation.. these factors make it difficult to put a price tag on it.. but it's certainly not one for the recycling bin!!

Thanks for all your help. I'll pass on the info to the rest of the family. Should they wish to sell are we best just putting this on e-bay or are there better routes to sell bottles like this?
Thanks again,
Fred.
